Handler was an actor to earn a living for her family. Handler, who was then at the age of 21, decided to focus on stand-up comedy as a full-time occupation when she discovered her story telling skills. Handler started her stand-up career on her role on the Oxygen Network's Girls Behaving Poorly which was a reality program with a hidden-camera/practical comedy. The show was broadcast from 2002 to2005. Handler began appearing on different shows such including Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler was a part of The Tonight Show for a period of time as a correspondent. Her breakthrough occurred in 2006, when she began hosting her show on E! The Chelsea Handler Show. The show lasted for two seasons. Handler performed on the Comedy Central's Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour the next year across the United States.
